DGA News – September 27, 2025

As the tournaments were coming fast and furious during the end of the summer, we fell behind on our newsletters, so there’s some catching up to do, starting with the oldest news first.

Legion Memorial

Bill Gannon ran away from the flock at Legion with an amazing net 61, good for a 9-stroke margin of victory over Jim Hansen in the Louie division. Dan Whiting had a net 69, which give him a 3-stroke victory over Thomas Larsen in the Hueys, while Jeffrey Hergert, also with a net 69, topped Tyler Roush and Howard Veal.

The team competition was tight in both flights. Dan Whiting led Nick Nichols, Jeremy Holland and Chuck Bauman to a one-stroke win over Nick Simpson, Curtis Soares, Vince Williams and Howard Veal in the low-handicap flight. In the high-handicap flight, Jeffrey Hergert, Michael Wu, Kyle Bissell and Tyler Roush edged Bill Gannon, Mike Gannon, Gene Hall and Nick Jenkins.

Big winners in the skins games were Rich Garrett, Ward Groesbeck and Thomas Edgar. Top winners in the Scrooge competition were Jim Hansen, Karlo Thornvig and Bill Gannon.

You can find all the winners on our website.

West Seattle

West Seattle was the Brothers Show! Bill and Bob Goodman and Bill and Mike Gannon ran roughshod over the course and the flock. In the Hueys, Bill Goodman topped Steve Jones for first place. In the Deweys, Bob Goodman thumped Dave Johnson for first place. And in the Louies, Bill Gannon beat his brother Mike, who had to settle for second place.

In the team competition, the Gannon boys topped Scott Bessho and a fill-in officer to take the mid-handicap flight. In the low-handicap flight, Bob Goodman and Keith Joyal won by four strokes over Scott Wilson and Bill Goodman, and Ted Binder and Gene Hall. Philmore Redeau and Jerry Martin (who might also claim to be brothers) topped Dave Hardy and David Luchtel. The Scandiwhovians swept the skins game, as Thomas Larsen, Leif Sorensen and Henrik Molholt took the top prizes. In the Scrooge competition, Steve Jones and Bill and Bob Goodman took the honors.

Duck Off

Our two-day league championship tournament was at the Gold Mountain Cascade and Olympic courses September 13-14. The weather was beautiful on Saturday at the Cascade course. In the low-handicap Blue Jacket flight, the competition was very tight on the first day. Philmore Redeau had the best round, with a net 68, but Ted Binder was only one stroke back, and Dan Whiting and Jerome Gotz were one more stroke behind. The high-handicap Green Jacket flight was a whole different story. Karlo Thornvig had the best round of the day with a net 65 that gave him a six-stroke lead over the closest contenders, Greg Lesnar and Bill Gannon (and ten or more strokes ahead of the rest of the flight).

Sunday we had some early-morning rain, which made the Olympic course a little wet, but the rain was done before the Ducks teed off, so we had good playing conditions. In the Blue Jacket flight, several Ducks charged up the leader board with better scores than they had Saturday, but nobody could catch the top two. Dan Whiting’s second straight net 70 give him a 140 total, good for second place, but Philmore Redeau scorched the flight with a net 66, giving him a six stroke edge over Dan. In the Green Jacket flight, Dave Hardy carded a net 68, which made him the leader in the clubhouse for a long stretch, until the last two groups came in. Karlo Thornvig had a respectable net 71, but Greg Lesnar shot a smoking net 64, which edged Karlo by a single stroke for the title.

Congratulations to this year’s champions, Philmore Redeau and Greg Lesnar!
